White Chest of Drawers

A white chest of drawers is great in the bedroom, and in others as well.

Making the choice to buy a white chest of drawers is always a good one because no matter how much you change the decor, or style of a room, it will always match what is in there. A chest of drawers, or dresser, is usually designed to be used in a bedroom for the storage of clothing but it can equally well be utilized in a hallway, utility room, or even a play room. The white finish means that you can even move it around because it will always fit in with its surroundings and you are not restricted to using it in just one room.

A white chest of drawers can also be used as a storage facility in a playroom, or family room. It can easily be wiped clean and will not look out of place. Plenty of easy to use storage can even encourage everyone in the family to be tidier and put things away in their place.

There are different sizes to choose between when selecting a white chest of drawers and there is also a choice of drawer arrangements. Some come with two small drawers at the top and two or three full width ones below, or with as many as five of six full sized drawers. What is the best choice for you depends on what you want to store in the drawers. If you are storing light items fairly shallow drawers are fine but thick winter woollens and items like that require deep drawers.

Sometimes a white chest of drawers is made of chipboard or fiberboard covered with a layer of melamine, or plastic-like material. This is obviously not solid wood and it should be priced accordingly. The big problem with a white chest of drawers made of this material is that if it gets wet it will disintegrate. If, for example, a child knocks a cup of juice over and you wipe it up, a small amount may seep under the edges of the coating. This can cause the chipboard, or fiberboard, of the white drawer chest to disintegrate and once it starts to break up you cannot do anything about it.

Look out for a well made, stable white drawer chest with well proportioned drawers and handles that are firmly fixed. So often this type of unit can have handles that are held on by very small screws and they are likely to come off easily. Check the insides of the drawers because those with thin hardboard bottoms will not last very long as the weight of the drawer contents makes them sag. This is common among the cheaper products available.

It is always good to search online to see what is available on the market in your area and what you are likely to pay for a white chest of drawers. Do not forget to keep a tape measure handy so that you get a good idea of the dimensions as it is not always easy to envisage the size of a piece of furniture.
